At the top of the Cochise/Naranja water zone, the Horseshoe Water Tank works hard to keep up with changing demands. Our team noticed that the original valve just wasn’t functioning the way it was needed, as it couldn’t keep up with the quick changes, was vulnerable to power outage issues, and didn’t facilitate precise tank fills.
Instead of sticking with what wasn’t working optimally, the crew looked for a better solution. They chose a Motor Operated Valve (MOV), which turned out to be a smart and economically friendly upgrade. This new valve lets the tank fill up with just the right amount of water, no matter what’s happening with the pressure. And if the power goes out, the valve automatically shuts, stopping water from flowing back into the system.
Since the switch, the tank has been running more optimally, helping to deliver safe and reliable water to our customers in Sierra Vista. As Matt Shelton, Operations supervisor at Liberty, put it: “Parts matter. When we found a better way to run a critical tank, we didn’t hesitate to make the change.”
