Sarival Water Reclamation Facility - Residential - Arizona Water - Liberty

Background

To continue providing safe, reliable wastewater service to customers, Liberty completed construction of the Sarival Water Reclamation Facility (“Sarival WRF”) in Goodyear, Arizona.

The Sarival WRF uses an innovative membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment process, in which wastewater permeates through a membrane to remove contaminants. The Sarival WRF is able to treat 4 million gallons of wastewater per day (MGD), with room for a potential expansion that would increase treatment capacity to 8.2 MGD.

Project Delivery
Project Delivery
  • Construction began in August 2022 and the Sarival WRF was put into service in March 2024.
  • Construction was completed through a design-build approach. This reduced the time it took to complete the project compared to more conventional project delivery methods.
  • Construction was completed ahead of schedule and under-budget, despite challenges such as global supply chain impacts and local growth.
Benefits to Liberty Customers
Benefits to Liberty Customers
  • Future developments will be accommodated through the additional capacity provided by this facility.
  • The Sarival WRF produces Class A+ quality effluent, the highest level of recycled water, which can be used to water golf courses or agriculture, to irrigate parks, in construction work, and for other non-potable uses.
  • The variety of potential uses for recycled water helps support local growth, reduces strain on the drinking water system, and increases drought tolerance.
  • The water treated at the Sarival WRF will also be used to help recharge the local aquifer to help maintain groundwater levels and supplement future water supplies.
