As part of the City of Scottsdale’s Carefree Highway roadway widening project, certain underground utilities must be relocated to accommodate the City’s improvements. The existing Carefree Highway Lift Station, which helps move wastewater through the system, is currently located within the planned roadway expansion area and must be relocated.

In addition to relocating the lift station, the project addresses aging pipeline conditions.

To maintain long-term reliability, the project includes:

  • Construction of a new lift station wetwell in a safer, out-of-conflict location
  • Connection of the new facility to the existing system
  • Adjustments to pipeline elevations to accommodate new roadway drainage infrastructure
  • Installation of air release valves to prevent air buildup
  • Installation of access points (cleanouts) to allow for future maintenance and cleaning
  • Removal and abandonment of the existing wetwell structure

These improvements will allow the wastewater system to continue to operate safely and efficiently while supporting the City’s roadway enhancements. Customers are not expected to experience impacts to service as a result of this project.
