Sentinel Rock Lift Station Odor Mitigation Project – This project aims to reduce wastewater-related odors and improve system reliability for our Carefree community. The Liberty team is strengthening key equipment, repairing the force main pipeline, and adding odor-control through iron dosing and chemical injection. Together, these improvements will reduce odor impacts for nearby residents, strengthen operational resilience, and support safer, more consistent wastewater treatment and conveyance.

Strengthening the reliability of our wastewater system
The series of capital projects contribute to a more reliable and resilient wastewater system that meets state and federal standards. These projects are imperative to maintaining a system that protects your health, the health of your community, and the environment.
Projects
Manhole rehabilitation and slip lining – When water from rain or groundwater enters the sewer system through manholes and pipes, it creates unnecessary strain on the system and can even drive up treatment costs. To resolve this issue, the Liberty team is coating manholes with epoxy to extend their service life, installing cured-in-place pipe to seal segments and joints, and lining older clay pipes to prevent leaks and restore structural integrity. This will help reduce the load on our system and keep our operations running efficiently for the long term.
Carefree Highway Lift Station decommissioning – To support the City of Scottsdale’s Carefree Highway widening project, Liberty is decommissioning our Carefree Highway Lift Station, which is currently in the way of the planned road improvements. This project goes hand-in-hand with the improvements to our Sunset Trail Lift Station as, once those upgrades are complete, then our team will remove the Carefree Highway station to avoid disruptions to essential wastewater service.
Sunset Trail Lift Station improvements – To support the City of Scottsdale’s Carefree Highway widening project and maintain reliable service following the decommissioning of our Carefree Highway Lift Station, Liberty is upgrading equipment at our Sunset Trail Lift Station. Our team will be installing two new pumps, electrical controls, odor control, and a standby generator, as well as make improvements to the wastewater pipeline. These upgrades will maintain and improve service reliability, offer better protection during storms and power outages, lead to operational savings, and reduce the likelihood of emergency repairs.
